I FALL ASLEEP PRAYING "AFRICA"

I fall asleep praying Africa I wonder what I say -

Do I pray for the children in the street, weeping for there's nothing left to eat

A list of them one by one the aging and the young.
The ones I've heard about. There’s a need there is no doubt

Children's smiling faces in the usual sunny places,
Cracking mud and flies Hovering over their eyes

I never pray for more or less that's all I know I guess.
No fighting news in the press; I have much more to bless.
I fall asleep praying Africa.
I wonder what I dream.
Do I dream of other children Like the ones I now know.
Until news of some other, to the list they go...

Oh Africa, let freedom reign - Oh Africa, let freedom reign Rain down a storm On the white man's home, Let him see that God Is watching over all. Let the thunder clap its hands Together we will stand Hand in hand one and all Africa
